MONTGOMERY, AL
This trip was dedicated to both my children, but more for my older son. I recently decided to home school both of my children this year and I wanted to give both boys the opportunity to travel and learn about our history. My kids are hands-on learners, so reading a book about these types of subjects does not help them learn or retain the information. I guess that’s part of being a boy. But anyway, here are some moments from our trip to the Alabaman Capital.
We first decided to visit the Civil Rights Memorial. However, due to COVID-19, we were unable to actually go see everything the Memorial had to offer. This is where I mentioned the history of Martin Luther king jr and explained what Civil Rights was to my oldest son. Even though he is still a bit too young to understand, I thought it would be a great time to talk about it with him since we were at one of the historical sites for the Civil Rights movement.
There was also old architecture everywhere. Photography wise, I loved the area. If some of the museums and historical places were open, it would have been better, but we still had fun sightseeing and talking about history along the way.
